Sceptile and Swampert Mega Evolutions Revealed
TCG players now receive rewards just for playing in organized events. Play! Points earned from attending tournaments and leagues now add up to prizes like promotional cards. Basic gifts are awarded to players with 5 and 15 points, while more extravagant prizes await the top 100 point holders in their age division. Visit the Player Rewards page for a full breakdown of the prizes.
The special Global Link Pokemon for the Nimbasa Gym Season of the Pokemon League is Dragonite. It comes with the hidden ability Multiscale and knows the moves Dragon Rush, Safeguard, Wing Attack, and Extremespeed, which is usually only obtainable through breeding.
Pokemon Leagues are weekly gatherings where TCG and VG players can meet to practice their skills. It’s a more casual setting than a tournament. You can find your local League by using the Pokemon League Locator at Pokemon.com.
The second International Challenge for Black and White 2 has been announced. Registration runs from March 15th to March 21st, with the actual competition spanning from March 22nd to the 25th. All entrants will receive a Rowap Berry at the end of the competition.
Legendary Pokemon are banned from this event. All battles will be Double Battles. Entrants with the highest scores can earn Championship points to use at real world events like Nationals.
The Pokemon Winter Regionals will be held on January 19th through the 20th. For those who don’t know, these are large Pokemon tournaments held at five cities simultaneously across North America. Both the TCG and video games are featured. The cities holding Winter Regionals this year are Salem OR, St. Louis MS, Sandston VA, Orlando FL, and Long Beach CA. For full details, check out this PokeGym thread.
The Top Cut has coverage of the Des Plaines City Championship. This video shows the finals between Adam Bigott and Matt Moss with commentary by Kyle Sucevich and Michael Pramawat. Adam is using Rayquaza/Eelektrik against Matt’s Darkrai EXs. Check out the video in the full story and more in depth tournament coverage at The Top Cut.
PokemanDan has uploaded a report for his recent second place Cities finish in Sutton Coldfield. He used Darkrai Mewtwo because he hadn’t played since Regionals, where he used the same deck. Before I give away too much, why not watch the video in the full story?
The latest online Pokemon competition is now live. Anyone who registered for the 2012 VGCS Winter Battle can now start battling. The highest ranked competitors can earn Championship Points and tournament byes for upcoming Pokemon events. The competition ends on December 17th.
Pooka from The Top Cut has uploaded a swan song video for BW1 Emboar. Inferno Fandango allows the player to attach as many Fire Energy from their hand to their Pokemon as they like during a turn. It was coupled with Reshiram’s Blue Flare to deal out a possible 120 damage on the second turn. Boundaries Crossed Blastoise and Keldeo EX will make Reshiboar all but extinct. Pooka plays the deck, with a few modern additions, one last time in this video.
The promo cards to be given out at Play! Pokemon events this year are all Eeveelutions. The promo of the past Regionals was Jolteon, Eevee will be the December City tournament promo, Flareon for the January Regionals, Umbreon for the March States, Vaporeon for the April Regionals, and Espeon for Nationals.
The official Pokemon website has added an FAQ all about Play Points. It covers how to opt-in, how to get points, and what they can be used for. It’s very well written, so I won’t bother readdressing the same material here. Check out the Play Points FAQ.
