Sceptile and Swampert Mega Evolutions Revealed
A new TCG article focusing on Plasma Storm’s emphasis of the Poison status effect is now featured at the official Pokemon website. It covers powerful cards like Hypnotoxic Laser and Virbank City Gym, as well as cards they pair well with like Crobat, Giratina, and, my favorite, Raticate.
Hypnotoxic Laser instantly Poisons the Defending Pokemon and Raticate’s Super Fang leaves it with 10 HP remaining. In between turns, the Poison damage will inflict the remaining 10 damage for the knockout. For an explanation of the other strategies, check out the article at Pokemon.com.
Hypnotoxic Laser poses a big threat to TCG players that use Basic Pokemon with low HP. The Top Cut has shown exactly why in their latest video.
Pooka starts with a 60 HP Squirtle. His opponent has a Mewtwo EX. His opponent plays Hypnotoxic Laser and Virbank City Gym, uses Computer Search to find a Double Colorless Energy, and then uses X Ball for 40 damage on top of the 30 damage dealt by Poison. All this means he lost the match without even drawing a card.
The latest episode of Prof-It from JWittz reviews the Plasma Storm set. He breaks down every card he thinks is interesting and gives his opinion on their playability. Watch the video in the full story, and make sure to check out JWittz on YouTube for more videos.
Plasma Storm will be releasing in stores on Wednesday in the US, but PokeCollection has already gotten a hold of two boxes to open. Check out part one of the series in the full story.
He gets a few good cards in this video including a reverse holo Colress, which acts like N except you draw cards totaling the number of all Benched Pokemon in play. It’s definitely a card that will see a lot of competitive play.
PokeBeach now has all card scans from the Plasma Storm TCG set. There are 138 cards in the set including secret rares. Interestingly, the Charizard secret rare has an error. Its Scorching Fire attack is misprinted with a Fighting Energy in the attack cost, when it should be a Fire Energy. Oops! We’ll have to see if future printings will fix this error. If they do, the original run will probably be worth a lot.
Prerelease tournaments for Plasma Storm are running this weekend and next to help build hype for the official release on February 6th. You can use the Play! Pokemon Event Locator to find a prerelease near you.
Prerelease tournaments have a cost of $30 to enter. You receive booster packs to open and then construct a 40 card deck with what you pull from those packs. These tournaments are used to explore the new set, so they are more about fun and less competitive than other tournaments. I would highly suggest attending if you can.
Five more Plasma Storm cards have leaked. They include the Kanto legendary bird trio of Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres as well as Crobat and Hypnotoxic Laser. Thanks to PokeBeach for the news.
High quality images of Plasma Storm products have surfaced. The booster packs featuring Articuno, Infernape, Liepard, and Lugia, as well as the Druddigon Plasma Claw and Giratina Plasma Shadow theme decks can now be seen in high quality. Plasma Storm releases in America on February 6th, 2013. Thanks to PidgiPress for the images.
The first card scans from Plasma Storm have been leaked. They include two Magnezone cards, Lugia EX, and Dowsing Machine. The two most interesting in this group are definitely Magnezone (46) and Dowsing Machine (128). Full scans and quick breakdowns can be found in the full story.
The Plasma Storm Trainer Elite Box has been announced. It is a box set that contains a lot of good stuff for anyone wanting to get into the Pokemon TCG. A full list of its contents can be found in the full story. To sum it up, it has 7 Plasma Storm booster packs, 40 energy cards, a deck box, and everything you need to start playing like dice and a player’s guide.
